Medical information

Total hip replacement: anterior approach, planning and stability

Dr Stanovici mainly performs primary total hip replacement through an anterior approach without a traction table, combined with 3D preoperative planning.

3D planning

Planning anticipates component size and position, centre of rotation, offset and leg length.

No traction table

Keeping the leg free allows direct intraoperative testing of stability and clinical control of length.

Implants

Ceramic-on-polyethylene bearings are frequently used; head size and dual mobility are adapted to anatomy and instability risk.

Fixation

Femoral fixation is adapted to bone quality. Cemented stems are frequently favoured in older or osteoporotic patients when fracture risk is a concern.

Activity

After a routine stable primary anterior THA, Dr Stanovici does not generally impose a universal list of forbidden daily movements. Sport returns progressively.
